Dr Kit Huckvale is a medical doctor and computer scientist and leads the University of Melbourne’s Digital Health Validitron, an interdisciplinary and collaborative research group that supports the design, development, testing and evaluation of digital health software solutions. The Validitron works with researchers, clinicians and on high impact clinical problems that demand innovative software, new ways of using clinical data, and new algorithms and AI/ML models. The Validitron has a distinctive focus on implementation, service design and workflow using novel methods, such as simulation, to accelerate validation and evidence generation.
He holds expertise in the design and quality and safety evaluation of patient-facing health technologies such as smartphone apps for self-management of asthma and diabetes, computer vision-based assessment for multiple sclerosis and automated detection of early mental illness.
He is also an emerging leader in the development and application of software platforms to support digital health innovation including projects in digital phenotyping and cloud-based virtualisation of healthcare infrastructure supporting simulation studies.
