Uma Devi Palanisamy Professor

Prof Uma received her initial education from the University of Malaya and pursued her PhD at Cambridge University. Primarily, a pre-clinical medical educationist and biomedical researcher, she has been actively involved in health promotion research and education with marginalised populations for over 10 years. As coordinator of the Community engagement program at Monash Malaysia, she saw to the development and implementation of numerous student-led health promotion projects. She founded the HEARD (HEAlthcare needs of the Deaf) program and leads a number of research projects, in collaboration with the Deaf community and industry. She recently received the 2023 Nature's Inclusive Health Research award for her work with the Deaf community in Malaysia
